So, Dearest Angels…this post began as this simple tip I passed on to my Instagram friends and led to many questions about nightmares and how to prevent them…so I said I would create a post exploring the subject of insomnia & Nightmares.
There will be spells, herbs, crystals, balms, videos, sigils, essential oils, and everything else you can imagine…so there has to be something for everyone. So scroll all the way through and I guarantee you’ll find something that works for you!
Now, most of this is information I gathered from my books & online if I agreed with it… and at the bottom will be the book or website noted for credit.

Charm Bag to Banish Nightmares Spell
What You Need
- small square of dark fabric
- dried rosemary
- anise seeds
- mullein leaves
- small citrine
- amethyst
Bad dreams can ruin the whole day.
A fast fix for recurring nightmares is to make a charm bag with ingredients to insure pleasant dreams.
To create this charm, take a small square of fabric, preferably dark blue, purple, or black.
Add a pinch of dried rosemary, anise seeds, and mullein leaves to the center of the fabric, plus some small citrine and amethyst stones.
Hold the bundle in both hands while visualizing indigo-blue light streaming into it from your third eye.
Tie the bundle shut with black cord to capture the energy. Focus the intent with this spell:
“Blocked and dissolved, the nightmares end,
Broken sleep does hereby mend.
Restoring peace and calm and rest,
Through each night, my (their) sleep is blessed.”
Place the bag under the mattress so it can radiate its energy without migrating around the bed.

Some Easy Sleep Tips
- Put cyclamen in your bedroom to help keep away nightmares and negative energies
- Laboradite and Amethyst under your pillow
- Rosemary and lavender have calming and antidepressant qualities and can help with restful sleep.
- LAVENDER, LAVENDER, LAVENDER…Did I mention Lavender….always a reliable relaxation herb in tea, sleep charm, under your pillow, Lavender Bath (My Favorite,) aromatherapy ANYTHING Lavender…this is just my experience…
- Wash your bedding regularly. Nightmares make you sweat and just it being there from a previous night can trigger more nightmares. I can not stress enough how much clean sheets helps.
- If you have a nightmare in the middle of the night, flip your pillow over before you go back to sleep to avoid having it again that night.
- Open your window at least a tiny bit during the day to let in fresh air.
- Make a small spray bottle with water and essential oils in it (especially lavender) to spray around where you sleep before going to bed.
- Put a large piece of amethyst on your nightstand for a good sleep.
- Tidy your room! Really- clutter and laundry on the floor can create bad energy which gets into your subconscious mind and triggers nightmares.
- Shower before getting into bed if you can (you’ll want to with clean sheets) or at least have a good bedtime routine.
- A note about dreamcatchers: You need to be very respectful if you choose to use one since these are from Native American culture. I recommend buying one directly from a shop run by someone of that background and reading up on their history.

Dealing with Nightmares
Nightmares can be very stressful and terrifying. Everyone has them and sometimes they are caused by your own subconscious thoughts and worries.
- Keep a notebook or dream journal with a pen near your bed. When you wake up from a nightmare, even if you are distressed, try to write down your emotions, thoughts and what you can remember about the nightmare down.
- Come morning research the symbolism of the things that happened and appeared in your nightmare. Also consider what they may mean personally to you. Do you have any memories or experiences that relate to what happened in your dream?
- Look it all over after you finished your research. What picture does it paint? Is something from your waking life affecting you? Stresses? Arguments? Relationship problems? If so perhaps it is time you try to resolve these problems.
After waking up for a nightmare you can still feel rather distressed.
- Take deep breaths, as scary and distressing as it is, it is still just a dream
- Get some water
- Stretch or walk around if you can, get the jitters and shakes out
- Cleanse your room if you can, spray some moon water about or bring in some salt, help remove the negativity you just felt
- Read a book, it can help relax you again and make you feel sleepy, especially after such a stressful experience
- After you wrote down what you remember from your nightmare, don’t dwell on it right now. You can worry about it later, for now find other things to do if you are not interested in going back to sleep
- Listen to calming music or sounds
- Watch calming images or videos if needed such as rain falling, ocean waves, changing clouds, looping gifs, etc
- If someone is around and there to listen, you can talk it out with them. It can really help calm you
- Drink some chamomile tea, it really helps
- Wash your face
- Cuddle, pet or speak with a pet
- Hold your favorite stuffed animal or blanket for comfort
- Make a crystal grid of calming stones and negativity removal stones
- If you do not plan on going back to sleep or if it is already morning, take a shower or bath
- If you do not plan on going back to sleep, light some white and black candles to cleanse yourself and space of the negative energy brought by the nightmare. Do this with caution, make sure you are not too tired to do this. Fires are not fun or safe
